Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) will not resign after being caught sending lewd photos of himself to a variety of women other than his wife.
It's hard to be surprised about this kind of thing anymore. Sex scandals are the rule, not the exception, these days. They are the elementary facts of life for the corrupt and degenerate government of a corrupt and degenerate people.
As I've said previously, America is not merely badly governed (as the religious right likes to say) or full of idiots (as the atheistic left likes to say), it is positively evil. It was among the first to fully embrace the cthonian nature of man's material essence. It is a wonder to me that politicians are even expected to resign for such behavior anymore, given the muddy moral depths to which their constituents have similarly descended; I almost wonder if it's truly the justice in such acts of contrition that people are interested in or merely the spectacle of ritual self-immolation.
Americans cheat, and are cheated on in turn. They cheat on their wives and on their husbands. They lie to their parents and they steal from their siblings. They evade taxes, rob banks, commit fraud, accept bribes, forge documents, and perjure themselves under oath. They blaspheme against God and abuse and neglect their own children. They export all their pathologies to the rest of the world -- at gunpoint! -- and then muster the temerity to lecture those who fight back about morality. A nation can be forgiven for doing things wrong occasionally. But America exhibits a statistically significant bias toward evil in virtually every action at every level. (I limit my discussion here to Americans because I'm not as familiar with current events elsewhere in the West. I doubt they are any more encouraging).
I've spent a lot of time on this blog endeavoring to uncover a new ordering for society, given the collapse of this one. But perhaps the simple truth is that we don't deserve one. Corrupt peoples deserve the squalor and disorder and darkness in which they live. Aristotle tells us that some men are born to be slaves -- and so they deserve nothing less than a slavemaster.
"I almost wonder if it's truly the justice in such acts of contrition that people are interested in or merely the spectacle of ritual self-immolation."
The latter, without a doubt. ANY opportunity to boost's one's social status by adopting the moral high ground is a good opportunity. Truth and self-respect be damned. We see it and hear it everyday, particularly from self-flagellating white betas on issues of race and/or sex.
