I've been writing an essay concerning the modern condition recently (which will be published on the blog after its completion, hopefully no later than January 1) and, while writing, it occurred to me there's a very easy way to understand modernity in general and modern movements especially.
Modernity is the institutionalization of rebellion against the natural order of being.
And modern movements are those which idealize this rebellion or participate in it to any extent.
As a heuristic, this is useful for resolving at least one of the two major "Is it modern?" questions that periodically plague as far-rightists: it puts the Nazis decisively on the side of modernity (albeit as a competing modernity to the individualist/materialist one that prevailed). Unfortunately, it furnishes no answer to the Protestant question.
Seriously, kids, this essay will be great stuff, so keep your eyes peeled. In the meantime, I'll be on the road tomorrow morning and be gone through at least the early part of Monday with little Internet access, so please have a safe, happy, and very holy Christmas day.
Happy Christmas. And we await this essay
